When you work in this business there are many hard lessons to learn. One of the hardest lessons for me was realizing the importance of surrounding myself with good people. It is critical that you find individuals who are willing and able to check their egos at the door and who share your vision. Over the years I had the privilege of working with some fabulous musicians and singers, but not all of them wanted to be a part of Mustard Seed Productions for the long-haul. That was just one season in my life. Staying faithful to God and the gift that he has given me, I moved on and God allowed me to meet some incredible people along my musical journey.
Going back to the beginning where it all started there's my friend and first partner Gerry West, who now resides in Texas. Back in the mid-90s we composed and burned the midnight oil-producing tracks many nights. Some of those songs still get rave reviews to this day. Also, I had the privilege of meeting a young and up-coming singer and musician Ronald Johnston Jr. aka "RonJacob." We built a relationship back then that still exists to this day. One song that I wrote back then and we produced together called "Keep the Faith" has been a blessing to many. Also, two young men that believed in my vision and became great working partners are Johnnie Whiteside and Will Allen. They've been major contributors to the success of Mustard Seed Productions and for that I am very thankful.
So, finding a team of musicians, singers, songwriters, and producers who are truly partners can be done. Not only can it be done, it is a recipe for success. You just need to know your worth and be willing to let go of what God doesn't have or want for you. Doing this can have a major role in your success in music or whatever your passion may be.
